Is Jatenzo cost covered by insurance?

Your insurance may cover some of the cost of Jatenzo (generic name: testosterone undecanoate). It's is an expensive medication, but many patients will not pay high prices. In addition, Tolmar, the manufacturer of Jatenzo offers a Savings Card through the Jatenzo Support program. Eligible patients with private, commercial insurance may be able to pay as little as $0 for their prescription with this card.

The Jatenzo Support program offers a yearly benefit. These programs are not valid for patients with government-funded insurance such as Medicaid, Medicare or Tricare.

Your doctor may need to submit paperwork for insurance coverage and prior authorization allowing you to get this medication. Eligible patients without commercial insurance may still save up to 50% on their monthly prescription.

What is Jatenzo?

Jatenzo is an oral testosterone replacement therapy given as a capsule twice per day for the treatment of low testosterone in hypogonadal men. Jatenzo is FDA-approved for men with genetic disorders like Klinefelter syndrome or tumors that have damaged the pituitary gland, not “age-related hypogonadism”, due to heart safety risks.

In a 4-month study of 166 men with hypogonadism, 87% of Jatenzo-treated men reached testosterone levels within the normal range, which was the main endpoint of the study.

Commonly reported side effects (>2%) included:

  • headache
  • diarrhea
  • an increase in hematocrit (red blood cell count) / hemoglobin
  • high blood pressure
  • fluid retention, edema
  • prostate enlargement
  • heartburn
  • belching
  • nausea
